Why covert matters more on ebikes
An ebike thief who finds an AirTag taped under the saddle will disable it in under a minute. They've seen them before. They scan for them. Once disabled, the bike's a £3k anonymous lump and recovery becomes guesswork.
BackPedal trackers are fitted inside the frame or battery compartment during professional installation. They're not visible without disassembly, and even then there are three of them — finding and disabling all three before recovery agents arrive isn't realistic. The tracker location is the bike's biggest insurance against ending up as parts.

Is the GPS tracker included with ebike insurance?
Yes — the tracking kit (up to £149 of GSM, GPS, and BLE hardware) and professional installation are both bundled into the BackPedal subscription. Year 1 is paid annually upfront — the annual fee covers the tracker, install, 24/7 recovery, and backup theft insurance. From year 2 you can switch to monthly billing or stay annual at a discount.
Where do you install the tracker on an ebike?
Our mechanics fit the tracker covertly inside the frame, battery compartment, or another concealed location depending on your ebike model. Installation takes about 30 minutes and happens anywhere in London zones 1–4, 8am to 8pm, at a time and place that suits you.
Does the tracker drain my ebike battery?
Tracker draws negligible power — our kit is designed for months-to-year battery life on its own cell, independent of the ebike's battery. Some installations tap your bike's main power for trickle-charging, which adds an imperceptible load (less than 1% of typical daily usage).
Is an AirTag enough for my ebike?
No. Apple AirTags work for finding bikes inside your home or office, not against professional theft. They rely on a passing iPhone to relay position, professional thieves know how to scan for and disable them, and they don't include a recovery team. For a £3k+ ebike, the maths doesn't work out.
Why three trackers instead of just GPS?
GPS struggles indoors and underground. GSM uses the mobile network to track anywhere, including underground car parks and inside buildings. BLE handles the final-metre proximity when the bike's inside a building or vehicle and other signals are weak. Together they cover each other's blind spots.
