UK bike insurance has traditionally meant one thing — paying you a sum of money after your bike is stolen and never seen again. What does bike insurance with BackPedal cover?
Every BackPedal subscription includes a covert GPS tracker, professional installation, 24/7 recovery team callout, and backup theft insurance underwritten by Sundays. If your bike is stolen we attempt to recover it first; if we can't, our Sundays-backed insurance covers the claim — replacement, accessories, theft damage — subject to standard policy terms. Recovery itself has no exclusions, even if you forgot to lock up.
How much does bike insurance cost in the UK?
BackPedal pricing is based on your bike's value, starting at around £153/year for entry-level bikes (≈£13/month equivalent). Year 1 is billed annually upfront — it covers up to £149 of tracker hardware plus professional installation. From year 2 you can switch to monthly billing or stay annual at a discount. Does home insurance cover bike theft?
Sometimes — but usually capped at a few hundred pounds and only if the bike was stolen from inside your home. Most policies exclude theft from sheds, garages, on the street, or while you're riding. They also don't recover your bike. BackPedal recovers it, then insures whatever recovery can't fix.
Is bike insurance with theft cover worth it?
If your bike is worth more than ~£500, almost always. The average UK bike theft loss is £450 according to ONS; an excess-only claim under most policies wipes out the saving. BackPedal's recovery service means most subscribers never claim — the bike comes back instead.
What's the excess on a BackPedal bike insurance claim?
£50 fixed excess on insurance claims. No excess on recovery claims — if we get your bike back, you pay nothing. Battery-only insurance claims on ebikes have a £200 excess.
